It highlights the small\, decorative\, and historical fasteners found on clothes. \n\n\nPurpose: To appreciate buttons in our wardrobes\, sort through jars of collected buttons\, or check that all fasteners on garments are secure.\nActivities: Common activities include sorting buttons by color\, size\, or material; crafting; and organizing button collections.\nHistory: Buttons have been used for thousands of years\, with early examples dating back to 2800–2600 BCE in the Indus Valley. \n\n\n\n\nNote that this is separate from National Button Day\, which takes place in the United States on November 16th.

SUMMARY:Quilters of SC "A Pieceable Retreat"
DESCRIPTION:The Pieceable Retreat is an annual event held in the fall.  The purpose of the retreat is to provide a weekend of fun\, learning and friendship. The first retreat was held in 1994 and provided two evening programs and four hour classes. Our History Page has more information about past retreat meeting dates. As QSC has grown\, so has the retreat. \n\nAlong  with  a  full  schedule  of  classes  taught  by  the  best  teachers  in  the  state\,  there are other opportunities available  to  retreat  goers.  Saturday  night  is  always  a  lively  meeting  which  includes  a  show  and  tell\,  a “parade” of the class projects from the day.  Vendors are available for shopping. \n\nYou must be a current member of QSC to attend the retreat. Our Membership Page has more information about how to join our state quilters guild.

DESCRIPTION:International Quilt Festival/Houston (1975-Present)\nThe International Quilt Festival is the largest annual quilt show in the U.S. and takes place each fall in Houston\, Texas. Festival regularly attracts more than 40\,000 people from over 25 countries all around the world. There’s shopping at more than 700 booths for quilts\, fabric\, supplies\, and crafts\, along with 350 classes and lectures for all experience levels. Festival features more than 1\,200 quilts and unique works of textile art on display. We also have editions in the spring and summer in different cities.

DESCRIPTION:Pins and Needles Day is celebrated every year on November 27. The day celebrates a popular musical performed on Broadway between 1937 and 1940. With music composed by Harold Rome\, the musical was originally written for members of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union\, but its entertaining storyline led to a skyrocketing in popularity. The show was based on the lives of young workers during the American labor movement and acted as a parody of prevalent social issues. The show performed 1\,018 times and was even presented to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife at the White House in 1938.
